Hey, you stuck around.
There are some pretty wild allegations flying around right now about my husband and me, and I wanted to address them and say, categorically, that neither he nor I has ever doxxed anyone. Neither of us has ever had a romantic or sexual relationship with a student or mentee; has ever run a "grooming ring"; has ever threatened someone's career or offered to advance it in return for favors, sexual or otherwise; have ever terrorized a con staff member... honestly, I've quit reading twitter for the time being, so I don't know what else is being said about us.
I did not singlehandedly attack and destroy Requires Hate's career; she still has a career, as near as I can tell. I was part of a group effort, led by her victims, to expose her bullying and blackmail attempts.
I did indeed exercise poor judgment in 2009 and I made some ignorant and privileged comments with racist implications that I did not understand at the time. I've apologized repeatedly for those statements and I now apologize again to anyone I harmed. I have worked to make amends, and to support the careers of writers and industry professionals of color, which honestly as a queer person from a multiracial family is something I would have done anyway.
Anyway, this is just to say thank you. Thank you for sticking around, and thank you for weighing allegations against the evidence rather than assuming guilt.
If anything, I think this past week has proven that I am not in fact a monster against whom people are terrified to speak out.
